Mela Taung is a mountain in the region of Kayin State, the country of Myanmar with an average elevation of 4,682 feet above sea level. The area is not very densely populated with 96 people per mile2 . The nearest town larger than 50,000 inhabitants takes about 12:30 hour by local transportation.

Nature
Mela Taung has a humid (> 0.65 p/pet) climate. The land area is not cultivated, most of the natural vegetation is still intact. The landscape is mostly covered with closed to open broadleaved evergreen or semi-decidious forest. The climate is classified as a tropical savanna (winter dry season), , with a subtropical wet forest biozone . The soil in the area is high in acrisols, alisols, plinthosols (ac), acid soil with clay-enriched lower horizon and low saturation of bases.
